Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he’d kill to possess her.

Collected here in one volume for the first time, volumes one and two of The Vampire Diaries, the tale of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.

So I’m a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries show on the CW, and after starting to watch the show I decided I had to read the books that such an amazing show would be based on. I absolutely loved what I found! The Vampire Diaries was so addicting. I absolutely loved the plot – it kept you going, going, going until the end where it leaves you pining for the next book.

I wasn’t as big of a fan of the writing as I was the plot. The plot was amazing, but I felt The Vampire Diaries could’ve been better written. I loved the characters in The Vampire Dairies, especially Stefan and Damon. Damon had you drawn to his character, while you know you should detest him.

LJ Smith keeps you on the edge the whole book. She mixes in romance, suspense, and a bit of mystery. The books get better and better as you read! I really enjoyed book 1, The Awakening, and The Struggle, book 2, only got better!

After reading books 1 and 2, I cannot wait to go get the rest of the books! They are absolutely addicting.

I liked the writing style; to each his (or her) own, I suppose.
Wasn't it fantastic, though? I actually like the books way better than the show, but I think Elena is way cooler in the show than the books.

Loved these two books. I really need to get back to reading these!

  3. Leslie says:

I completely agree. I wasn't super impressed about the writing, but the plot had me coming back for more. I read this a few weeks ago, also because of the show. I was so blown away by the books, I feel like I can't help but be disappointed by the show now.

  4. Katie says:

Love these books — they are such a part of my teenage-hood that I have trouble looking at them from a reviewer perspective.

But yeah, the writing could have been cleaned up, definitely.

  5. Arya says:

I agree! I love the tv show, and the plot of the books but her writing style is very simple. I get weirded out by Elena though. I don't know, in the books she just really creeps me out.
    Great review!
