On the surface, Emily Meckler leads the perfect life. She has three best friends, two loving parents, and the ideal setup at the Connecticut prep school where her father is the headmaster. But Emily also suffers from devastating nightmares about fire and water, and nobody knows why. Then the enigmatic Del Sugar enters her life, and Emily is immediately swept away—but her passionate relationship with Del is just the first of many things that aren’t quite what they seem in Emily’s life. As the lies she’s been told start to unravel, Emily must set out to discover the truth regarding her nightmare; on a journey that will lead her to question everything she thought she knew about love, family, and her own idyllic past.

This companion novel to Warman’s critically acclaimed Breathless proves that sometimes the biggest lies are told to the people you love the most.

I loved this book. The cover, the story, the characters, everything. Everything about this book is simply beautiful, and I am absolutely in love with it. I had such an issue writing my thoughts for it, as I found it perfect in everyway.

Warman’s writing is exquisite. It just makes the story come alive. There was not a moment of this book I didn’t love. Some parts aren’t entirely believable, but Warman manages to get you so caught up in the story, you don’t really even notice. I loved the plot. It had so many twists, and you never expected what was coming next. Everything was always a huge surprise.

Warman does a great job of tackling so many different issues in Where the Truth Lies. You have your average teen drama at boarding school, but also so much more. Between family issues and psychological issues, Where the Truth Lies brings a lot to think about and a great plot with it.

The characters were so much fun. Each brought so much to the story and they were all so diverse. Renee was a favorite character – every scene with her was awesome. Emily Meckler, our main character, was an interesting character. She had so many layers to her, and you were constantly discovering something new about her.

I cannot wait for another book from Jessica Warman! This was a beautiful book in every waye, and I absolutely loved it. I had issues putting it down, and nearly read straight through!

Do you need to read Breathless to enjoy this? I grabbed Where The Truth Lies at BEA, but have yet to read it. I am glad you enjoyed it so much and that it is a one sitting kind of a book!

Yes, that's what I want to know too. I had this preordered but I cancelled it when I heard that it was a companion to the book Breathless. Don't get me wrong I still want to read it but not if it can't stand alone, I would rather go buy and read Breathless first. So yeah if you can answer that for me too that would be amazing because these two books sound great! =)

  6. Katie says:

I really love the cover for this one.

Just a quick note to those wondering if you need to read Breathless first. The answer is no. They are completely separate books. I'm reading it now and while it does take place in a boarding school its located in West Virgina. And while this book may be lovely I am finding Breathless a difficult read – its just so blah. The writing is solid but the story is just so filled with annoyances.
