Describe Fairy Bad Day in 5 words.
Cute boys, skittles and swords
What has been your favorite character to write throughout your books?
Malik! Malik is a dead djinn (genie) who stars in the midgrade series that I have coming out next year and he is definitely the most ridiculous character I’ve ever written. He is addicted to Cheetos, obsessed with American Idol and looks like Zac Efron’s older brother. He also gets my heroine into so much trouble that it’s not funny!
What is hardest for you to write – the first line or the last line?
Funnily enough I find both first lines and last lines pretty easy to write because I always have a clear picture of where the book starts and where it ends. Unfortunately, for me, it’s normally the 80,000 words in-between those two points that cause me problems!!!
Do you have any writing rituals you like to follow?
No. I keep trying to start some like using special candles or having nice stationary and using playlists but like with so many things, I start out strong and then just forget about them! I guess I’m a simple kind of person. All I really need is my laptop and a coffee or some Diet Coke. Then I tend to move around the house following the sun, a bit like a cat!
If you could travel one place in the world, where would it be?
Italy! I travelled through Europe when I finished college but for some stupid reason I detoured Italy, which I really regret but I’ll definitely be getting there sometime soon (hear that Universe!)
What’s one of the best books you have read lately?
Oh, tough question! I devour YA fiction and have been reading loads of amazing books lately but my favorite this year is Eon by Alison Goodman. It’s a wonderful blend of fantasy and Japanese and Chinese mythology!
