There are many things that Annah would like to forget: the look on her sister’s face before Annah left her behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, her first glimpse of the Horde as they swarmed the Dark City, the sear of the barbed wire that would scar her for life. But most of all, Annah would like to forget the morning Elias left her for the Recruiters.

Annah’s world stopped that day, and she’s been waiting for Elias to come home ever since. Somehow, without him, her life doesn’t feel much different than the dead that roam the wasted city around her. Until she meets Catcher, and everything feels alive again.

But Catcher has his own secrets. Dark, terrifying truths that link him to a past Annah has longed to forget, and to a future too deadly to consider. And now it’s up to Annah: can she continue to live in a world covered in the blood of the living? Or is death the only escape from the Return’s destruction?

This series is an absolute must read. Each book is absolutely brilliant, building the story in this amazing world. The Dark and Hollow Places will not disappoint, filled to the brim with the characters we love and a bunch more and more of the action packed world I have come to fall in love with.

Carrie Ryan has some mad writing skills. These books are some of the best written books I have read in awhile, and the writing got better with each book, topping off with The Dark and Hollow Places.

The plot builds and builds with this book. It starts action packed and absolutely intriguing and by the end of the book I was flipping pages so fast, I could scarcely keep up. I never knew what was going to happen – the lead up the end was a complete shocker to me. Everything that happened I was like WOH! as I couldn’t guess it, not even a little bit.

I wasn’t as crazy about Annah as the main character as I was Gabry and Mary – but she still was an absolutely brilliant character. I loved seeing the characters build, you get to see so many more sides of characters and really get to know them.

I was sad that this was the third book, as it was the final one. Catcher, Annah, Gabry and Elias’s world is one that I would never get bored with. Every moment of the book I was so caught up in the world, as if I was right there beside them.

Carrie Ryan is an absolutely amazing author, who is surely one to watch. I know that whatever she comes up with, I will be preordering as soon as I can!

Cover Rating: A+ – This series has just absolutely gorgeous covers, I absolutely love all 3!

This is the last book already?! Ohh Carrie won't write anymore? it hurts when you know your favorite book is ending! I can't comment anything about the mad writing skills cause I still haven't read this, I just have to find it out for myself ;) another bump for my TBR list!

We loved the first two, so we're glad to hear that the third doesn't disappoint! Thanks for the great review. :)

  3. The Bibliophile says:

Interesting that she didn't write it as a straight out series. I always got feelings of The Village when reading the first one.

  4. Lindsay says:

Have you read her short story Hare Moon? It's about one of the Sisters and gives a little history about her life when she was young. It's more like The Forest of Hands and Teeth and you can get it on Kindle for a pretty cheap price. It's worth a read if you loved the books!

  5. Alexa says:

Wow this must be a great series since you read all three books in a row. Can't wait to start Carrie's books. Thanks for the great reviews on the series. :)

I love when authors create worlds that are so imaginative that you get lost in them. It's almost like a vacation.

  12. Jenn of Frequent Reader, Infrequent Blogger says:

I keep hearing about the Forest of Hands and Teeth and haven't had the chance to read it yet, judging from what you've said about it's sequel it sounds like an intriguing series.

  13. Emily says:

This book is a great ending to the trilogy. I really like Annah. I also liked how the plot thickens and develops throughout the novel. I especially like how all three books focus on differnt characters but it is still connected. The ending was satisfying because it left enough mystery for the reader to imagine how the survivors will end up at.
