Interview with Kait Nolan
I am super excited to have Kait Nolan by the blog today for an interview!
Kait Nolan is stuck in an office all day, sometimes juggling all three of her jobs at once with the skill of a trained bear—sometimes with a similar temperament. After hours, she uses her powers for good, creating escapist fiction. The work of this Mississippi native is packed with action, romance, and the kinds of imaginative paranormal creatures you’d want to sweep you off your feet…or eat your boss. When she’s not working or writing, she’s in her kitchen, heading up a revolution to Retake Homemade from her cooking blog, Pots and Plots.
If the characters from Red got stuck on a deserted island, who would fare the best? The worst? And who would be the one to get them off the island?
Oh best is easy. That’s hands down my heroine Elodie. Her father has spent the last four years intensively training her in survival skills and mountaineering, so she’s totally the girl who’d know “you really shouldn’t eat that,” and be able to figure out how to turn bamboo and banana leaves into a viable shelter. The person who’d fare the worse would be Amber, the head of the Barbie Squad, because she’s got the survival skills of a two year old. It would be Elodie and Sawyer together who’d work to get everybody off the island because with his support, she can do anything.
Could you tell us 5 random facts about you?
· I love roasted marshmallows so much, my husband bought me a tabletop s’mores maker for Christmas one year, and my mother-in-law keeps a bag of marshmallows on hand all winter in case we have a fire.
· I wrote my first book when I was five: The Adventures of Clumsy and Big Paw.
· My favorite movie as a child was Crocodile Dundee II. I could quote the entire movie and always knew when they blipped out the swearing for cable.
· I have never broken a bone.
· While I’m generally considered a good cook, my uncontested specialty is pizza—from scratch.
Between all your books, do you have a favorite character to write?
Whoever is currently talking! There are really fun aspects of all of them, but I absolutely most enjoy when one of them hijacks the driver’s seat and lets it rip on the keyboard. Makes my job way easier!
If you could have lunch with one of your characters, who would you choose?
Well, Mick Guidry, the wolf-shifter hero from Devil’s Eye can cook, and a man who knows his way around a kitchen is really sexy, so if he wanted to cook me something Cajun and awesome, I’d be cool with that. It’d be a really nice view while he worked! ;)
What is a book you have read lately and loved?
Well I’m not actually finished yet, but I’m currently in the middle of Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and am totally loving it. They’ve done a marvelous job of capturing the reality of small town South, and the whole Southern Gothic vibe is just awesome.
You can catch up with her at her blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Goodreads.
Her debut YA paranormal, Red, is currently available from Smashwords, Amazon, Amazon UK, Amazon DE, Barnes and Noble, and All Romance EBooks.
