The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.
That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.
Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.
But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.
Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

Oh my gosh – Tempest by Julie Cross is definitely one of the best books of the year. I was entranced from page one and did not want to put it down until I finished. Julie Cross takes a unique perspective on time travel, and it was so much fun to read.

I loved the characters, particularly Jackson, Holly, and Adam. Holly was such a unique character, she was such a strong person.  There were a lot of smaller characters too that I hope to see more from in the next 2 books, because I loved them a lot.

I loved that there were so many questions to be asked in Tempest. I felt like everything was new and I loved discovering what was going on, who was behind it, what else it to come, etc.  There was nothing I could guess, and even when I thought I was figuring something out, Julie Cross would throw something else new at readers.  The plot got more intense and built with every page. I was on the edge of my seat for a good portion of the book.

I am very curious to see where the story will  go from here. Julie Cross has designed a story that is so intriguing and unique. I loved that there were so many touching, heart felt moments mixed among the intensity the rest of the book had. It was just really nicely balanced throughout the entirety of the novel.

This was an absolutely thrilling debut and I cannot wait to hear more from Jackson! The wait until book 2 will be painful, especially after the ending Julie Cross has left readers with. Tempest‘s cover is one of my favorites in awhile. This is a book I will earnestly recommend to all, as it was one heck of a read.

  1. Glad you liked it so much! I loved also the characters the most and I really liked how much love from the author the secondary characters got. Adam is so cute, in a dorky kind of way.
But, Jackson was amazing! Such a strong lead, makes me want to read more male POV! Great Review :)) woot!

I feel like the reviews for this one are pinging all over the place, but I’m glad to hear you liked it. This is one of the books I’ve been most anticipating this year, but am hesitant as a time travel fangirl since I’ve read some of the time travel elements are questionable. That’s not going to stop me though, and I’ve heard such great things about the characters I’m banking on not being disappointed. I don’t have the book yet, but I did download the prequel last night (Tomorrow is Today which is available FREE on Amazon), so I’ll be reading that soon!

I haven’t read this one yet. My friend has an arc she’s going to lend me. It look really great, and I’m interested in how the time travel is done. The only book i have read with time travel thus far, is The Time Travelers Wife.. I loved that, so maybe I’ll love this. :)

I agree, this cover is great.. covers like these make me think, how the heck did the get that picture? that could’t have been comfortable for them to pose like that. I know they probably aren’t hanging from the air literaly like some elaborate affair.. but bending that way… maybe I’m just old.. but I wouldn’t last a minute. Maybe that’s why it looks like she’s wearing orthopedic shoes. lol

That is high praise. I just read a review that is less than stellar so I’m a little conflicted. I do admit that I love a good time traveling tale though!

  13. Alexa says:

Everyone is really in love with this one but I found the time travel to be confusing at times. Plus I was so angry with the ending that had the review copy belonged to me and not a tour site I would have thrown it across the room. How could he do that to her!!! Book two better fix this!

It is like when I read City of Bones, yeah still waiting for that one to be fixed since book two didn’t fix the problem, hence why I haven’t read book three yet.

    Sorry for my emotional outburst.

    Thanks for the great review.

Like Alexa above me, I was more than a little confused by the time travel. However there were some great action sequences that made this a pretty fun read.
