Fantasy Five Friday: Interview with Leah Clifford

I am SUPER excited to have Leah Clifford by The Book Cellar today for another Fantasy Five Friday! Welcome Leah :)

Leah Clifford is the author of the A Touch Trilogy, book 1 being A Touch Mortal and book 2 being A Touch Morbid. Leah Clifford has been an extreme cave tour guide, a camp counselor, a flight attendant, a pizza delivery girl, a waitress, and a grocery store clerk.  She now lives outside Cleveland and is also part of the YA Rebels. You can find her on the web at her website, blog, Twitter, and Goodreads.

Here’s a bit about A Touch Morbid, which came out on February 28:

Eden won the battle-she saved her true love from the darkest evil. But the war has only just begun. With secrets swirling around her, powerful allies unraveling, and life-and death-as she knows it eroding, Eden and those she loves tread dangerous ground. Can she trust anyone? Will her unearthly powers be her salvation or her downfall? A sweeping, dark, and sexy paranormal romance that will haunt readers with an inventive mythology and a cinematic New York City filled with shadows and longing.

Could you give us the one sentence pitch of your book?

A Touch Morbid– With secrets swirling around her, powerful allies unraveling, and life-and death-as she knows it eroding, Eden and those she loves tread dangerous ground.

Since you have a fantasy novel coming out, the next question I obviously have to ask is: If you were a fantastical creature, which would you be?

Vampires have had a special place in my heart from a young age. If one offered me the chance to turn, I’d give it quite a bit of thought.

Do you have a favorite fantasy read?

I have a special place in my heart for a book called Nevernever by Will Shetterly. I read it years and years ago and LOVED it. It was actually the second book in a series, but I had no idea and just bought the first one. Can’t wait to delve into it!

Generally speaking, which comes first: the world, the characters, or the plot?

For me it comes as a quick flash. Usually a line of dialogue and a witty comeback, a screaming match, someone sobbing for reasons I don’t understand. It’s like a peek into someone else’s life, someone else’s memory and sometimes, they catch hold. I start to wonder who they are, these people, why they’re so angry or happy or sad. The only way I learn is by writing their story.

They are always coming out with new editions of board games. If your book could be a special edition of any board game, which would you choose?

Shoots and Ladders: The Upstairs/Downstairs Edition
