Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Each week features a different topic, and you make a top ten list about it. This week is the Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving.
First thing, I am such a cover whore – so I judge books on covers WAY too much.
Stay With Me by Paul Griffin - I really don’t like this books cover, but the book was absolutely AMAZING. It had come to me highly recommended, or else, I think I may have passed over it.
I also was super received by the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine. I totally passed those books over for ages, because the covers were a bit not my thing, but it’s now one of my favorite series.
Awkward by Marni Bates – This was a book I totally would have passed over from merely the synopses, but it was SO awesome!
The Forest of Hands and Teeth trilogy by Carrie Ryan was another totally deceiving series for me. I saw the original hardcover cover, and thought no way. When I saw they were about zombies, it furthered my no way. Now I love the covers for the book, starting with the paperback of Forest of Hands and Teeth :) But I was totally deceived by the zombies – they were SO COOL.
John Belushi is Dead by Kathy Charles – this book was WAY deceiving to me. I saw the cover and thought, ehhh. But it was SUCH a great story.
I thought that the synopses for Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma made it sound much cooler than it actually was, which was a bit disappointing.
Skyship Academy: The Pearl Wars by Nick James was WAY cooler than the synopses was making it out to be I thought.
I also totally wrote off Please Ignore Vera Dietz by AS King based on the cover but oh my golly, that book rocked.

Awkward almost made my list! I agree, the book is just fantastic, but the summary just doesn’t really grab you. But I am so glad I read it :) Also agree about Vera Dietz- it is an excellent read.

I’m not a huge fan of the covers for The Morganville Vampires series either. I didn’t read them until I read all the great reviews of them. In fact, I still have to read books 5 and up.

I love The Morganville Vampires! I actually started reading them long before I started blogging, while I still lived in Norway. They were some of the only YA books I could find in English in bookstores, and back then that was all it took to make me read something:P

OMG! I almost wrote Awkward off too, but then I opened it up and it was like the angels singing because sigh, perfect light contemporary read for my mood.
Also? I think I need to give them Morganville vampires a chance.
